My name is Nancy Princenthal; I am a New York-based art critic and a faculty member of the School of Visual Arts. Iā€™d like to provide a little background on Nancy Rubinsā€™ sculpture Monochrome for Austin, commissioned by Landmarks, the public art program at the University of Texas at Austin, and also on the drawing by Rubins that has been acquired by the University.

Landmarks Video presents David Ellisā€™s motion painting, Animal (2010). The nine-and-a half-minute video features a kaleidoscope of spectacular creatures, landscapes, and abstractionsā€”in varying colors and shapesā€”interspersed with dramatic splashes of paint. Taking viewers on an exhilarating journey into the process of artistic creation.

Animal by David Ellis screens from 1 April through 30 April on a media station in the ART building located on the corner of East 23rd Street and San Jacinto Boulevard.

Aptly termed ā€œglamorous provocationā€ by Index Magazine, Sylvie Fleuryā€™s work also figures as postmodern, post-feminist Pop art. Walking on Carl Andre (1997) functions as a cool yet playful form of retribution in response to Andreā€™s censure of a Fleury installation. Collectors in Geneva allowed her to film women walking on Andreā€™s work in high heels. The sight of stylish, colorful, ā€œfeminineā€ footwear thwarts viewersā€™ expectations and visually overpowers Andreā€™s art.
